FAQs

I offer an initial discovery session with students, where we discuss their target majors and schools and go over a writing sample so I can offer some insight on how we might proceed together. Once we’ve determined a tentative timeline for drafting and reviews, we may hold a meeting or two to brainstorm some ideas for personal statements and supplementals. When drafts are submitted to me, I will edit them, line by line, and highlight areas that must be modified with specific feedback. Most drafts require multiple revisions. I work in Google Docs, and edits are marked as tracked changes for you to accept or reject.

It depends. I have had clients come to me days before their application deadline (ill-advised). I have had others contact me the summer before (strongly advised).

I am not a general educational consultant. Though I can offer advice on colleges, activities, and application forms, based on my experience, I do not offer general counselling in a professional capacity so that I may offer you the best possible service as a writing specialist. There are many educational consultants that offer full-scale professional counselling, including essay-writing coaching within the scope of their service. Be wary of the generalist who offers this kind of service. Many consultants outsource this kind of service to freelance editors, as they are not writing specialists themselves, per se.

I have chosen to focus on the niche of admissions essays so that I may truly call myself an expert in this field. I am not trying to be good at everything when I can be excellent in one area – an area that accounts for 25-30% of the perceived value of your college application. When I agree to take on a student as a client, they and their families become family to me, as well.  I count some of my clients among my closest friends. Many of my clients, and their parents, have shed tears with me at some point in our working relationship, because I create a safe space for them to do so. I have also shed tears with students and their families after having learned they were accepted to the schools of their dreams. I believe this level of emotional investment is what sets me apart from others in not only this field, but most fields. This is also why the majority of my clients come from referrals, rather than advertising. I offer consultation calls without a time cap, so you can take the necessary time to ensure I am the right coach for your needs.

Though my approach often entails heavy editing that result in substantially modified drafts, I do not write original essays for my students because, aside from the ethics, it would be impossible for me to do so ( just like it would be impossible for a chatbot to do so). The best essays feature details and anecdotes that  come from your personal experience. My role is to help you package this info and sell yourself in the strongest written way possible.

Yes! I also work with students from all over the world. I am familiar with a variety of application portals and their essay requirements, including OUAC, Common App, Coalition App, Apply Texas,  My UC, UCAS, and others.

Though it is an unfortunate standard practice in the world of educational consulting, I do not filter students based on their academic performance, activity profile, or test scores. You do not need to be an English native speaker, though basic English fluency is necessary. I prefer to work with students who are accountable, hard-working, and responsive, as they can expect to see the best results.

The ideal time to start working with me is summer before senior year. This gives us ample time to both work on your drafts AND find opportunities to enhance your drafts with experience and research over the summer and fall months. That said, feel free to come to me any time…even if it’s right before the deadline (at your own risk!).

I do not offer discounted rates, regardless of the number of essays clients require assistance with. That said,  I can advise how to best use my services if you would like to work within a budget.

Though I work with clients from all over the world, I have set my rates in USD as the bulk of my clientele are US-based. If you are a non-US citizen, please email me for converted rates and payment options.
